I had been waiting for it, the first real snowfall of the season. When the forecast promised over two decimeters of snow I packed my gear and headed deep into the old forests of Jämtland. More precisely to Hotagens Nature Reserve close to where I live.
Hotagens Nature Reserve contains one of the largest protected old growth forests in Sweden. It’s also the home to the Ursus Arctos – the brown bear. A true wilderness!
Here’s a series of photographs that I captured during wonderful days with fantastic winter conditions in the old forests of Hotagen. I’ve also composed a video slideshow that you can immerse yourself in.
Most of you probably know me for my mountain photography, but I’m as passionated about the old growth forest. The light of the winter forest can be stunning, but conditions like these are rare. To experience snowfall, mist and beautiful light in the old forests of Hotagens Nature Reserve was very special to me.
I hope you enjoyed this series of photographs from the deep forests of Jämtland. They are available as stunning Art Prints in my online shop.
You can also support my work by becoming a Supporter. In return you get access to exclusive content including in-depth videos about mountain and wilderness photography.
Expect to see more work from the Swedish forests from me in the future.
