During the weekend I spent two peaceful nights in the old forests of Helvetesbrännans Nature Reserve in Jämtland. The snow had barely melted away, ice was still covering the lakes and the forest was waking up after a long winter.
This time I was out to prepare myself and try a few things for the project I will announce soon – Moments in The Wilderness.
In the evening I made myself a cup of coffee on the wood stove. I sat there among the pine trees and large boulders and listened. As darkness fell over the old forest I heard the hauntingly beautiful sound of spring in the forest. The song of the Black Grouse.
One of my tasks on this outing was to test a new microphone and recorder that I’ve got recently for my upcoming project. Here’s a recording of what I heard when I sat there:
Later, when I fell asleep, the song of the Black Grouse was still echoing through the forest.
When I woke up early the next morning a blanket of fog was covering the lake and the pine forest surrounding it. I spent hours trying to make the most out of this magical morning with my camera.
To spend time in solitude in the old forest is a very enriching experience. Those who go there with their eyes and ears open will be rewarded.
