Field Work Completed

A frame from the ending of my upcoming film Moments in the Wilderness.

I had initially planned to write this post back in June. I had just got back home from my last field work trip for the Moments in the Wilderness project and had reviewed the material that I brought home with me. It had been a successful final outing – although with the pressure on myself to produce the final video for the film and the last two photographs for the print portfolio.

After a year of intense work I was exhausted.

The following night I woke up with a pressure over my chest and a few days later I found myself in the hospital being examined by doctors. I had not been sick even once since I began the work with the project over a year ago, but now, two days after I had completed the field work my body said no.

Luckily, everything went fine. After a month of rest I recovered and now I feel great, but it was a reminder on how fragile life and a project like this is. As an artist working on my own I don’t have anyone who can take my place and continue the work should I get ill. I’m very grateful that I could complete the field work as planned.

At the moment I’m in the middle of the post-production phase of the project. I’m editing the film and I’ve just finished setting up a new, larger printer in the studio and made test prints for the print portfolios. As I’m writing this I’m waiting for the door bell to ring – the archival boxes for the print portfolios should arrive today.

From now on I will work to refine the material and the experiences that I’ve collected during my year in the wilderness. It’s a great feeling to see everything slowly taking form. My goal is to have the film and print portfolios ready by early December.

I’m looking forward to share more from the project with you soon!
